Brixham Sunset

For couples seeking a calm and cultural getaway, Brixham offers a wonderful blend of coastal beauty, rich history, and artistic charm. Harbour View Guest House’s prime location means you’re just steps away from the town’s most captivating experiences. So, here’s a gentle itinerary to help you enjoy Brixham’s unique character at your own pace.

Morning: Stroll the Historic Harbour and Visit the Golden Hind Ship

Brixham Golden Hind Ship

Start your day with a peaceful walk around Brixham Harbour, soaking in the sights and sounds of this historic fishing port. One of the harbour’s highlights is the Golden Hind, a full-scale replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous 16th-century galleon. Step aboard this fascinating ship to explore its wooden decks and learn about Drake’s legendary circumnavigation of the globe. It’s a captivating experience that brings history to life and offers stunning views across the harbour from the upper decks.

Mid-Morning: Coffee Break at Port Espresso

After your visit to the Golden Hind, why not take a short walk to Port Espresso, one of Brixham’s favourite independent cafés. Known for its expertly brewed coffee and welcoming atmosphere, Port Espresso is the perfect spot to pause and recharge. Whether you prefer a smooth latte or a rich espresso, their friendly baristas craft every cup with care. Pair your drink with a slice of homemade cake or a freshly baked pastry, then relax and enjoy watching the harbour bustle just outside.

Lunch: Classic Fish and Chips at Rockfish

For lunch, head to Rockfish, located right on the harbour front. Famous for their sustainably sourced seafood, Rockfish serves some of the best fish and chips in the area. Be sure to try their famous curried mushy peas, a delicious twist on a classic British side that perfectly complements the crispy, fresh fish. So fresh, their tagline is ‘tomorrow’s fish are still in the sea!’ The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere here makes it an ideal spot to enjoy a leisurely meal with harbour views and don’t forget their bottomless chips!

Afternoon: Explore the Local Art!

Take a stroll to the Brixham Heritage Museum and the Brixham Art Gallery to immerse yourself in the town’s rich history and creative spirit. We highly recommend visiting the talented sisters at the Colours of Brixham! Or, why not visit the Strand Art Gallery, established in 1972, is one of the oldest and largest galleries in Devon and the West of England. Located on Brixham’s harbourside, it features over 400 original paintings, specialising in marine and landscape art by internationally renowned local artists, with a strong focus on Devon views.

Dinner: Mediterranean Flavours at Olive

For dinner, treat yourselves to a meal at Olive, a charming restaurant known for its exquisite Mediterranean-inspired dishes and impressive wine selection. Their tasting menu, featuring a variety of small, flavourful plates, is perfect for sharing and sampling different tastes. Pair your meal with a carefully chosen wine from their extensive list, making it a truly special dining experience in a cosy, intimate setting. We highly recommend their monkfish and Spanakopita Bites!

After Dinner Drinks: New Quay Inn

The New Quay Inn is the perfect evening spot to unwind with a drink after a day by the sea. Its cosy, historic setting and warm lighting create a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. Visitors are often greeted by Tilly, the resident pub dog, who’s always happy to meet new friends, especially if treats are involved. The New Quay Inn offers an impressive range of real ales and an extensive wine list, including 20 to 30 bottles and champagne for special occasions. As one of Brixham’s oldest pubs, it’s rich in maritime history, with centuries of stories woven into its cosy, two-floor setting. They do an amazing Sunday Roast and serve tapas every Thursday to Saturday nights!

After a day of exploration and delicious food, return to Harbour View Guesthouse to unwind. Enjoy the comfort of your room and the stunning harbour views as the sun sets, reflecting on your relaxed day in beautiful Brixham. We hope you enjoy your stay!
